The Actor and The Camera - Duaia Assumpção
TARGET PUBLIC
Actors and drama students
PURPOSE
Through practical exercises and conceptual reflections , this workshop proposes that student actors recognize and utilize the expressive resources of Film in such a way that these resources become tools in the processes of the conception and execution of characters.
CONTENT
Permanent exercises with a camera during the entire process of creating a character ; the recreation of referential movie scenes or the creation of new scenes on the basis of improvisation.
Interpreting a role in front of a camera always causes an actor to feel that something "larger-than-life" is happening and that it is urgent for him/her to control the descriptive excesses in order to arrive at the dramatic essence , given that the image on the screen is much larger than the original dimension of the actor who generated it.
Trained to work with that which is "ample" or "large" ,
with the aim of reaching a broad public , the stage actor feels disarmed;
to lose control of his or her medium may be fatal : in the case of a big close-up
, the image is 85 times larger than the original. This can be frightening.
But only that, because the interpretive art gains a new meaning much closer
to just being.
